The inauguration of Professors took place on Wednesday, June 15, 2022, which was a happy day for the Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences (FPIK) of Diponegoro University. FPIK UNDIP added two more professors. The two professors of FPIK UNDIP who were inaugurated were Prof. Dr. Ir. Abdul Ghofar, M.Sc from the Department of Aquatic Resources and Prof. Dr. Ir. Fronthea Swastawati, M.Sc. from the Department of Fishery Products Technology. The implementation of the Professor Inauguration event took place at the Prof. Soedarto SH, Tembalang by fulfilling the requirements of the Health protocol led by the Chair of the UNDIP Academic Senate Prof. Ir. Edy Rianto, M.Sc., Ph.D., IPU. Inaugural speech by Prof. Dr. Ir. Abdul Ghofar, M.Sc. entitled “Tuna Fishery Management and Its Impact in Indonesia”. In his speech, he explained that fisheries management is a major effort for the government in an integrated process as law enforcement in the field of fisheries to achieve sustainable productivity of aquatic biological resources. One of the main problems is the management of tuna fisheries in Indonesia. Indonesia is still at a low level of fisheries management, it is proven that the understanding and benefits of fisheries management are not adequately understood, Illegal, Unreported and Unregulated (IUU) fishing is still ongoing, regulatory compliance and enforcement still need to be enforced and fishery data that is still scattered and inadequate. Therefore, it is necessary to develop research on fishery management so that it can provide a balanced impact on biological resources, including; sustainable fisheries management by conducting data collection and monitoring with the spawning potential ratio model; strategic commodities; policies and investments aimed at providing information and support to the government for effective and inclusive policies; integration of conservation and fisheries; and the impacts of climate change.
Prof. Dr. Ir. Abdul Ghofar, M.Sc. is a permanent lecturer at the Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences at Diponegoro University in the field of marine fisheries biology. He is an alumnus of S2 and S3 University of Wales, U.K in the fields of Fisheries Biology & Management and Marine Ecology. He has teaching experience or visiting lecturer in various countries such as University of Boston Massachusetts USA, University of Xiamen China, University of the Philippines at Visaya, Katsersat University of Thailand. He is currently involved in national and international organizations, being the chairman of Regional Fisheries Management organizations (RFMO): Bluefin Tuna Conservation Commission, Indian Ocean Tuna Commission (IOTC) as a member, etc. The award he received in 1994 as an Exemplary Lecturer at the Faculty of FPIK Undip, Satya Lencana by Satya 10 Years, 20 Years, 30 Years by the President of the Republic of Indonesia. The next inaugural speech by Prof. Dr. Ir. Fronthea Swastawati, M.Sc. entitled “Innovation of Liquid Smoke Technology for Modern and Hygienic Processing of Fishery Products in Indonesia”. He explained that the use of smoke technology in the processing of fishery products has a characteristic that creates a taste for consumers, which is generally done in a traditional and simple manner that does not pay attention to the sanitation and hygiene aspects. The process of smoking fish in Indonesia using traditional technology (furnaces made of piles of bricks with wire strands) results in products that do not meet the Indonesian National Standard (SNI) so it needs to be developed in a semi-modern way with mechanical fumigation. . Smoking fish using liquid smoke is intended to make the product safer and ensure its health. This is evident from several studies that show positive results in the food world. Liquid smoke made from lamtoro wood and hump jangung which did not detect the presence of Benzo[a]Pyrene compounds which are Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons (PAH) compounds and are known as indicators of carcinogenesis.
Prof. Dr. Ir. Fronthea Swastawati, M.Sc. is a permanent lecturer at the Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences at Diponegoro University in the field of fishery product processing technology. He holds a Bachelor (S1) majoring in Fisheries at Diponegoro University followed by a Master (S2) Food Science and Technology at the University of Humberside, England, a doctorate (S3) in Water Resources Management at Diponegoro University. He served as the head of the LPPM Research Center at Diponegoro University in 2010-2015 and also received various Satya Lancana Karya Satya awards for 30 years by the President of the Republic of Indonesia, Best Excellent paper International in 2012 and outstanding Lecturer I level of FPIK Diponegoro University in 2009 and 2011, as well as Lecturer Achievement III at the UNDIP level in 2009.
