Ester Christiana Chinta Losung’s thesis defense will be held online on Thursday, December 11, 2025, from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM WIB (Western Indonesian Time) in Building J, Room 305, Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences, Diponegoro University (FPIK). Ester Losung is a 2024 PMDSU student. This thesis defense marks the final stage in completing her Master’s program, a journey that has included both joys and sorrows in conducting research and writing her thesis.
The thesis defense presented is entitled “Exploration of the Antibacterial Potential of Gorgonian Bacteria Associated with Karimunjawa Waters Against Pathogens Triggering Inflammation in Diabetic Foot Ulcers.” In his presentation, the Exploration of various gorgonian genera in Karimunjawa successfully isolated 76 associated bacteria, two main isolates, V. coralliilyticus (GK 8.2) and Acinetobacter soli (BK 9.2), were identified as superior candidates based on inhibitory activity in the agar plug test with a strong bland zone diameter (isolate BK 9.2) and the highest antibacterial activity of the five test pathogens (GK 8.2) as well as activity in the double layer confirmation test, and the presence of NRPS and PKS-II biosynthetic genes. Extracts from both potential isolates showed that the A. soli extract exhibited antibacterial activity at all concentrations, from 1000 ppm to 125 ppm, against the pathogen P. aeruginosa. Minimum Inhibitory Concentration (MIC) and Minimum Bactericidal Concentration (MBC) tests revealed that the lowest concentration capable of inhibiting the growth of the pathogenic bacteria was 20 mg/mL, indicating the isolate’s effectiveness in treating bacterial infections.
The thesis defense was attended by Prof. Dr. Ir. Agus Sabdono, M.Sc. (Supervisor 1), Dr. Aninditia Sabdaningsih, S.Si., M.Si. (Supervisor 2 & Manager), Prof. Dr. Ir. Delianis Pringgenies, M.Sc. (Examiner), and Eko Susanto, S.Pi., M.Sc., Ph.D. (Examiner). Based on the presentation, Ester Losung was declared PASSED with minor revisions (no changes to the concept but changes or improvements to the format). Keep up the good work to complete the revisions to achieve your new degree and Good luck!
